Moto Learning Doujou

To study English, I am teaching Japanese in English. I will share Speaking & Writing activity for improvement of your Japanese.

Writing Doujou: “What would your dream home be like? Where would it be located? あなたの理想の家はどんな感じですか。場所はどこが良いですか。”

①Improvement of Writing

こんにちは。I will share Writing Activity for improvement of your Japanese. Many mistakes are necessary for improvement. Don’t hesitate to write your sentences in accordance with ②Instruction. For beginner level learners, it is OK to write just simple and short sentences.

②Instruction

I will pick up a question from some English Learning sites.

1, Try to think about appropriate sentence structure (this part is the most important).

2, In the comment section, post your answer in Japanese in“48 hours” from posting this thread. Although I cannot respond to all (especially, off topic) because I have limitation of time, I will check your writing.

3, If you add explanation and English translation, it will be helpful to understand and check your sentences more accurately.

③Topic Question

“What would your dream home be like? Where would it be located?

あなたの理想の家はどんな感じですか。場所はどこが良いですか。”

I referred to a question “What would your dream home be like? Where would it be located? あなたの理想の家はどのようなものですか。場所はどこが良いですか。” from an article “Man Builds Rotating House for His Wife” in DMM Eikaiwa. I have changed original translation of the question partially for the activity.

④Reference

DMM Eikaiwa 2021, “Man Builds Rotating House for His Wife

男性が妻のために回転する家を建てる”, DMM Eikaiwa.

⑤Question and Comment

If you have some questions about topic, ask me on the comment section. If you write in English, I will comment back in English and If you write in Japanese, I will comment back in Japanese. Although I cannot respond to all (Especially, off topic) because I have limitation of time, I try to comment back.

⑥Example Answer

#1-1 Karaoke Practice + Learning Japanese by Song + Writing Activity: 1st part of the Song“ロビンソン”

Karaoke & Learning Japanese

こんにちは。I am Japanese. To study English, I am teaching Japanese in English.

I have started to use Japanese songs as learning material for my English exercise and for someone learning Japanese or want to practice Karaoke

Intentionally, I will introduce “Not New Songs”. This is because, you can easily find out many new songs with translation on Official Channel in YouTube but it is difficult to find out about relatively old songs. I will introduce popular songs amongst Japanese or little unknown but masterpiece.

Today, We will see the first part of lyrics of ロビンソン. The name of band is スピッツ. Lyrics Writer and Composer is 草野正宗 (くさの まさむね)

Instruction, How to practice?

1, Check meaning of each word in lyrics and also Grammar Explanation at below .

(Some websites do not make contract with JASRAC, copyright management organization, while other websites such as はてなblog, and YouTube make the contract, so I will introduce lyrics in those websites. )

2, Check my Interpretation of lyrics or translation at below .

Sometimes, writers intentionally omit some words such as Subject or Object in lyrics. In this situation, I try to imagine and interpret meaning of lyrics, Like I said, I am learning English, so there could be many incorrect and unnatural explanations or translations in English. Sorry about this.

3, After listening to original song, it is good to practice Karaoke. That might be also effective as Japanese exercise.

(Sometimes, the key of original song is high or low. in this situation, try to adjust the key by Karaoke machine.)

4, If you are learner and want to learn more Japanese, try Writing Activity. To improve language, output such as writing, and speaking is necessary.

Writing Activity

(W1) I will pick up some words from the lyrics. Choose one word from the below “Word List” and make a sentence by using the word. Please refer to the below ④ Example sentences.

(W2) It is good to ask your Japanese friend or teacher to correct your sentences.

(If you have a difficulty to find out someone to correct your sentences and want to ask me to correct your sentences, check my “Moto Writing Doujou”.)

https://bit.ly/3xy1Hso

“Word List”

1,―を 追いかける
2,―を ぶらさげる
3,―を 作り上げる
4,―を 離す

④Example Sentences

I chose 1 & 3 and wrote example sentences like this.

1, 公園でジョギングしていると、野良猫が私を追いかけてきました。可愛かったので撫でてあげました。

3, ミラーさんの趣味は大きなプラモデルを買って、何ヶ月もかけて作り上げることです。

If you add explanation and English translation, it will be helpful to understand and correct your sentences more accurately.

The first part of Lyrics & Interpretation

I just try to practice Karaoke(笑).

This time, we will see the first part of song and next time, I will post the second part. I put the lyrics into [ ] which are cited from “Masamune, Kusano. (1995). Title of song: ロビンソン. Title of album: ハチミツ. Record Label: ポリドール”. I put vocabulary meaning, my grammar explanation and interpretation of lyrics into <>.

[新しい         季節は]

[Atarasii         Kisetsu wa]

<新しい=new,   季節=season>

[ なぜか ]

[ Nazeka ]

<なぜか=for some reason>

[ せつない  日々で ]

[ Setsunai   Hibide ]

<切ない = to be sad inside, 日々=every day>

<I think we can put です as predicate to indicate the end of this sentence. However, instead of です, で indicates the sentence still continues to another sentence like “conjunction”.>

[Atarasii Kisetsu wa Nazeka Setsunai Hibide]

<For some reason. I was feeling sad inside in the new season.>

[ 河原の 道を ]

[ Kawarano Michi wo ]

<河原=riverside, 道=road>

[ 自転車で     走る君を ]

[ Jitensha de    hashiru kimi wo ]

<自転車で=by bicycle, 自転車で走る=to cycle>

<走る is a Dictionary form, so it shows “Relative Pronoun structure” to add additional information to Noun=君.>

[ 追いかけた ]

[ Oikaketa ]

<追いかける=chase>

[Kawara no Michi wo Jitensha de Hashiru Kimi wo Oikaketa]

<I was chasing you who were cycling on the riverside road.>

<I interpreted that Subject1 in this whole sentence is “わたし” but it is omitted. The Object2 of the whole sentence is “河原の道を自転車で走る君を=Relative Pronounを” that requires Verb2 “追いかける and its Taform is 追いかけた. In side of Relative Pronoun, Subject is 君, object is 河原の道を that requires Verb2 走る.>

[ 思い出の  レコードと ]

[ Omoideno Rekoodo to ]

<思い出の=memorable, レコード=record>

[ 大げさな   エピソードを ]

[ Oogesana   Episodo wo ]

[ Onajiserifu   Onajitoki ]

Arifureta Konomahou de, Tsukuriageta yo]

<I/We built up (my/our country) by ordinary magic that is like we put the same line into words at the same time.>

<This was really tough to translate. The latter part tries to explain what type of magic and the magic is like “we say same line simultaneously”.>

[誰も    触れない 二人だけの   国]

[Daremo  sawarenai  futaridakeno  kuni]

#2-7 Japanese Speaking and Writing Practice with Moto for N5 Beginner and Intermediate level, Topic: “いいえ、Nounです。”.

Improvement of Speaking and Writing

こんにちは。モトです。I am Japanese and I am teaching Japanese. In this series, I will share my practice way for N5 Beginner and Intermediate level learners who want to review.

If learners are studying Japanese only for JLPT as test preparation, it might be difficult to improve speaking and writing Japanese actually, because the test does not cover Speaking and Writing. Thus, we set a Goal to improve Speaking and Writing in this series while learning JLPT N5 Beginner topics.

Features and Advantages

While using Practice Sheet, we try to remember Question and Response sentences as Dialogue to learn how to use word and grammar. (Using story or dialogues, it could be easier to remember them efficiently.)

It is also good to partially hide some words in tables in Practice Sheet by hand to check your progress or you can also change part of words and make another sentence like improvisation music.

After Speaking, through making your sentences, you can improve Writing. (Based on your sentences, it is good to make your Practice Sheet and play Dialogues with other learners.)

I will apply Minna no Nihongo to speaking and writing practice that covers almost all topics introduced by Genki so Genki user can also use this series.

(I will cite English translation from the textbook as it is, or I try to translate some expressions by myself. Now I am also learning English so my translation and explanation could be not correct or not natural, sorry for that.)

Instruction of Exercise

Before Speaking & Writing exercises, check vocabulary and grammar.

Step1 Vocabulary

motorcycle        baiku     バイク

Step2 Grammar

So, Today’s grammar topic is いいえ、Nounです。.

I cited below [*1] sentences and translations from Page 20 in Minna No Nihongo Second Edition Elementary Japanese 1 Translation & Grammar Notes – English. To explain grammar structure, based on [*1] sentences, I wrote [*2] sentence as B1. I added “[ ] My grammar interpretation”.

☆☆Basic Example Dialogue”

A          それは シャープペンシル  ですか。 [*1]

 sorewa shaapupensiru  desuka

Is that a mechanical pencil?  [*1]

[You can also say シャーペン instead of シャープペンシル.]

B1いいえ、それはシャープペンシルじゃありませんそれは ボールペンです。[*2]

[We have already learned the way to make negative response like “いいえ、それは シャープペンシルじゃありません。” and after that Person B says “それは ボールペンです。” to indicate correct answer.]

B2       いいえ、 ボールペン です。[*1]

iie    boorupen    desu

No, it’s a ballpoint pen.   [*1]

[However, B1 sentences are long so we can remove “それはシャープペンシルじゃありません。&それは”. As another way of response, after いいえ=NO and we can put ボールペンです。=It is a ballpoint pen as a correct answer.]

Step3 Speaking Exercise

Watch the video. You can use Speaking Practice Sheet.

“Practice Sheet”

https://drive.google.com/file/d/16NGLrB_w60AtjgH0Y2nVCGrAsmfSrjm1/view?usp=sharing

Step4 Writing Exercise

(W1), Read the above “☆☆Basic Example Dialogue” between Person A and B. The Dialogue contains Grammar topic in each time.

(W2), Try to make your dialogue between Person A&B like “☆Basic Example Dialogue”. In your dialogue, please try to use this time grammar topic いいえ、Nounです。 appropriately. Millions of mistakes are necessary for improvement, so you do not have to hesitate.

N5 level learner, if you have difficulty to write Dialogue style sentence, it is OK to write single sentences with grammar topic and OK to use only Hiragana. (It is easy-to-read to make space between word and word).

(W3), It is good to ask your teacher or Japanese friends to correct your sentences.

For Intermediate Level Learners

(W4) See the below “Advanced Example Dialogue”. Like the example, try to use this time Grammar topic いいえ、Nounです。” at least once and make your original Dialogue. In other words, if you just use the topic at least once, you do not have to use the topic anymore and you can make your dialogue freely. It is also OK to add more Person A&B part to make longer Dialogue.

Advanced Example Dialogue”

A: ミラーさんが買ったゲームは 任天堂スイッチのゲームですか。

B: いいえ、プレーステーション5のゲームです。 このアクションゲームは、スイッチでも、プレステでも発売されていますが、プレステでのバージョンのほうが映像はきれいだと思います。

[Instead of “いいえ、スイッチのゲームじゃありません。プレーステーション5のゲームです。”, we can shorten and say いいえ、Nounです。as correct answer.]

A:そうですか。僕は持ち運んで遊べるほうがいいので、スイッチでのバージョンを予約しようと思います。

So, like this, while using Today’s grammar topic, write your dialogue and if you add [ ] explanation and English translation, it will be helpful to understand and correct your sentences.

(If you have a difficulty to find out someone to correct your sentences and want to ask me to correct your sentences, check my “Moto Writing Doujou”.)

Step1 Vocabulary

I referred to words (I marked with) and their translations from Page 16-17 in Minna No Nihongo Second Edition Elementary Japanese 1, Translation & Grammar Notes – English. I also added other words.
